STAR WARS Battlefront will get a new Rogue One themed update this December

Star Wars Battlefront celebrated its one year anniversary by announcing a MASSIVE new expansion to the game with the fourth DLC – themed around new film Star Wars: Rogue One – which is due to arrive this December.

The new content launching December 6 was teased a few months back at the Star Wars Experience but now we have a bit more info about what the fourth and final DLC will entail.

“We’re happy to finally announce new details on Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: Scarif, which arrives for all [Battlefront] Season Pass owners on December 6.” reads a statement on the official Battlefront website.

“The fourth and final digital expansion pack gives you access to new content inspired by the upcoming film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, arriving in cinemas on December 16.

“In Rogue One: Scarif you’ll battle across four new maps, including the sandy beaches of Scarif – an all-new tropical planet crawling with Imperials – which should look mighty familiar to anyone who saw the movie trailer.

“Know that incredible scene in the trailer where the AT-ACT is marching through the waves? That’s the one!”

If you want to see a little teaser for Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: Scarif, take a look below, which gives you a brief look, while also promoting the newly announced Star Wars Battlefront Ultimate Edition.

As with all previous Star Wars Battlefront DLC (Outer Rim, Bespin, Death Star) this expansion will also bring with it a couple of new playable heroes.

“Joining the battle are Jyn Erso and Orson Krennic, as well as a new multi-stage game mode with space and ground combat.” continues the statement from the Battlefront creators.

In the upcoming film Jyn Erso (played by Felicity Jones) is a female soldier and former criminal who fought for the Rebel Alliance.

While Orson Krennic (played by Ben Mendelsohn) is the films main villain and the Director of Advanced Weapons Research for the Imperial Military and obsessed with the completion of the long-delayed Death Star.

In addition, the Battlefront team have also lifted the lid on what’s happening with their virtual reality X-Wing VR Mission, which was first glimpsed at E3 when Sony were busy promoting their new PlayStation VR set up.

This VR experience will also be released on December 6 and best of all it’s completely FREE.

“This free DLC gives you control of your very own X-wing in fully immersive virtual reality – brush up on your piloting skills, stay on target, and prepare to jump through hyperspace as you carry out an important mission for the Rebellion.”

However, you will of course be required to have a £350 PlayStation VR unit plus the PS4 Camera to enjoy this one of a kind mission.

The release of Rogue One: Scarif should symbol the end of significant Star Wars Battlefront DLC content.

In fact EA have already said that a sequel to Battlefront is the works and due out at the tail end of 2017.

EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen confirmed that the sequel is coming “a year from now.” while also adding that the team are “working very hard on making sure that is an extremely deep and engaging offering.”

EA holds the exclusive rights to the Star Wars video game license and in addition to a Battlefront sequel, there’s also an untitled third-person action game in the Star Wars universe being developed by Visceral Games.

While Titanfall 2 developer Respawn Entertainment are also working on a third-person action/adventure game.
